A learning legacy 75 years in the making
The “CHA” in CHA Learning carries a history that stretches back to the early days of Canada’s national healthcare community. It comes from the Canadian Hospital Association, the organization under which CHA Learning began offering healthcare education in 1951. Created to respond to the evolving needs of hospitals and healthcare professionals across the country, its learning programs were designed to make specialized healthcare education more accessible to people wherever they lived and worked.
As Canada’s healthcare system evolved, so did the organization behind CHA Learning. The Canadian Hospital Association later became the Canadian Healthcare Association, retaining the familiar CHA initials. In 2014, the Canadian Healthcare Association joined with the Association of Canadian Academic Healthcare Organizations to form HealthCareCAN, the national voice of healthcare organizations and hospitals across Canada.
Through these changes, the CHA Learning name remained. When HealthCareCAN was formed, stakeholder consultations reinforced the value of retaining a name that had become recognized and trusted by generations of healthcare professionals. What began as part of the Canadian Hospital Association had grown into a distinct learning legacy of its own.
